Triathlon

The girls just completed a triathlon! This was Ashlyn's 2nd, and Kiley's 1st. Character building for sure! So proud of the both of them although they were at the end of the pack. Kiley did great in the swim, was the third girl out of the pool (out of 25 or so), but the BMX bike with no gears, that's too small, didn't fare well against all the 21 speed bikes (many of which were racing bikes, some of these kids are into the traithlon thing and have some expensive racing bikes). All the racers, but one boy, passed her in the 2 mile bike section. She did great though and had a great attitude and was encouraging riders as they passed her and sang worship songs in her head to get through it!

Ashlyn toughed it out. She, for some odd reason, did butterfly for the first lap in swim (which is much slower than freestyle) and lost some ground. Then she had a wipeout on the bike (her shoelace got caught in the chain of the bike). She lost some major time here and continued the rest of the mile with tears streaming down her cheeks and blood dripping from her elbow. BUT she kept going and finished the bike and run, while crying the whole way (from the pain). She didn't give up or even ask to stop, she keep persevering!

Great experience in character, growth, perseverance! They both would do it again, although Kiley would like to have a bike that has some gears next time! I'll post some pictures later, but didn't want to forget the details of the day.
